Pet security systems are on the rise

Protect your petsIn the event of an emergency or fire, the safety and protection of every member of a family is paramount. For many households, this includes accounting for the well-being of furry family members, as well as human ones, which is why the use of pet security systems is becoming a common trend.

A recent survey conducted by the US Humane Society found that 39% of households in the US own at least one dog, and 33%, at least one cat. These statistics help to shed light on why pet security systems are becoming popular amongst a growing number of American families. Though it may seem silly to some, more and more pet owners are looking to equip their homes with a system based solely on the protection of their dogs and cats. These systems utilize many of the standard features normal home security and fire alarm systems do.

  • Video cameras: While owners are away at work, school or out-of-town, pet cameras are being used to monitor their animals. *Owners can view video live from their smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • Decals and stickers: In the event of a fire or emergency, these rescue decals help authorities identify that there are animals in a home.
  • Individual safety profiles: In the event of a fire or emergency, safety profiles help authorities identify any information that could be valuable in saving a pet’s life.
  • Smoke and gas detectors: Functioning just as they would in a normal home alarm system, these detectors help protect pets from smoke and toxic gases by notifying owners when levels are high. *Owners can receive notifications to their smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • Sensors: For both indoor and outdoor use, various sensors can help detect whether key entry points to where a pet is being kept have been closed or latched properly. They can also be used to detect temperature and other environmental factors. *Owners can receive notifications to their smartphone, tablet or computer.

The use of pet security systems can help people tackle many of the common issues faced by those that own animals, including one of the biggest issues, keeping them safe.  Owners can also feel a sense of ease knowing they can leave the house for both professional and personal reasons, and not have to worry about what their dog or cat is up to.  They can simply login with a smartphone or mobile device to view live streaming video and check up on their pet from wherever they are.
